Employment Solutions USA and Carrasquillo Law Group explore H-2A and H-2B visa programs at inaugural Employment Solutions USA Puerto Rico Conference April 28, 2022

New York and Puerto Rico – April 28, 2022: Employment Solutions USA (ESUSA) presented the inaugural Employment Solutions USA Puerto Rico Conference on April 21, 2022 at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort in Puerto Rico. The conference focused on the numerous benefits the temporary employment non-immigrant visa programs, H-2A and H-2B, can provide to employers in Puerto Rico.

Carrasquillo Law Group (CLG) was excited to sponsor this conference. CLG’s Managing Shareholder Rogelio (Roy) Carrasquillo and Senior Counsel William Kogan joined other industry experts and government officials from both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to lead presentations and participate in panel discussions about how the H-2A and H-2B programs can be used by employers in Puerto Rico to address temporary and seasonal labor shortages affecting various industries in Puerto Rico.

Fellow presenters and panelists included Arch. Yan C. Oquendo-Ramos, Director of the Program and Project Management Office (PMO) at the Puerto Rico Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience Central Office (COR3), Samir Enrique Santos Jimenez, General Director of Employment / Ministry of Labor of the Dominican Republic, Andrés Rosado, Assistant Secretary of Administration of the Department of Agriculture of Puerto Rico and Joaquin Villamil, CEO of Estudios Técnicos.

The conference’s various panel discussions discussed the benefits and challenges for employers, providing key recommendations for hiring through these two non-immigrant visa programs. Notably, the H-2A and H-2B visa programs can bolster the role workers from the Dominican Republic, as well as other Caribbean countries, play in helping to revitalize Puerto Rico’s economy.

“Employers in Puerto Rico currently face widespread temporary and seasonal labor shortages, which is particularly impacting construction, agriculture, hospitality and other important industries. I was pleased to discuss how companies in Puerto Rico can actively benefit from the H-2A and H-2B visa programs, allowing them to nimbly hire workers from neighboring countries to fill seasonal and temporary labor needs,” said Carrasquillo.

Attended by stakeholders from the public and private sector, the Employment Solutions USA Puerto Rico Conference aimed to address the widespread temporary labor shortages facing employers in Puerto Rico.
